Organic Whey Protein   Isolate

Our organic whey protein isolate is made differently to most whey proteins. Whey protein is normally made using whey left over from the cheese making process, but our organic whey protein isolate is made by filtering the whey directly from fresh milk, resulting in what we believe is the freshest whey protein on the market.

The milk comes from organically reared grass fed cows in the UK, Austria and Switzerland, and the taste is neutral and creamy, perfect for sneaking in extra quality protein when you’re making smoothies or baking, but it is also very pleasant as it is just mixed with water, milk or yoghurt.

Whey protein isolate is also just an incredibly readily absorbed protein source. It is ranked number one in the bioavailability index, with whey protein concentrate being at number two. So if you want a whey protein that is the most fresh and most readily absorbed, with no additives and made using milk from organic grass fed cows, then our organic whey protein isolate is the one to go for :-)

Main benefits

  • 88.6g protein per 100g / 22.15g protein per 25g serving
  • Fast to digest, so your body can break it down quickly to get to the good stuff
  • Contains all the essential and branched chain amino acids
  • Hormone free, gluten free, soya free and GMO free
  • Made in Austria by filtering fresh organic milk twice using purely mechanical ceramic filtration
  • The milk comes from organic farms in the UK, Austria, Switzerland, and depending on the supply may also come from organic farms in other European countries.
  • Independent nutritional test certificates published for every batch
  • A source of calcium and phosphorus
  • Neutral creamy taste, making it a very versatile ingredient
  • Suitable for vegetarians
  • Certified Organic by The Organic Food Federation
  • 25p donated to Compassion in World Farming for every pack, to help support an amazing team of people who are working tirelessly to bring an end to factory farming globally, one milestone at a time (of which there have been many). So far we've donated more than £30,000.

Who is it for?

This is a protein powder anyone can use, regardless of what your goals may be. People often use our organic whey protein for the following reasons:

  • Muscle and bone health
  • Supporting a healthy active lifestyle
  • To help keep going during times of physical stress
  • Increased need for protein as a result of medical issues
  • Lacking protein from other foods due to dietary restrictions
  • Some people just enjoy the taste and find the benefits to be a bonus

How is this different to the regular organic whey protein?

Our organic whey protein isolate goes through an additional filtration stage, giving us a higher protein content and making it even more readily absorbed by our bodies than the regular organic whey protein (a concentrate). Whey protein isolate is ranked number one in the bioavailability index, with whey protein concentrate at number two, and in third place are eggs.

Or for a more detailed explanation...

Both our regular organic whey protein and our organic whey protein isolate go through a filtration process known as ultrafiltration, whereby the whey is filtered with a very fine pore size of approximately 0.01 micron. However, the isolate first goes through microfiltration before going through the ultrafiltration stage. The microfiltration step uses a pore size of around 0.1 micron, so although the pore size is larger, this still helps increase the protein content further by removing even more fats, sugars and other naturally occurring non-protein things in the milk prior to going through the ultrafiltration stage, thereby helping increase the protein content further still. To be more precise, it currently gives us 88.6% protein instead of the 79% protein (on average) in our regular organic whey protein.

Thank you Johanna for asking this question :-)

Ingredients

Organic whey protein isolate, from organic grass fed cow's milk.

Serving guidance

The easiest way to use our organic whey protein isolate is to mix 25g with 150-200ml of water or milk (dairy or plant based) vigorously in a shaker for 30 seconds, or for 10 seconds in a blender.

25g is equivalent to approximately 60ml, which is equal to ¼ cup, 3.5 tablespoons, 2 scoops, or of course you can also weigh on a set of kitchen scales for the best accuracy. Many people only have half a serving (so around 12.5g or 30ml) as they don't need a lot of extra protein in their diet, so feel free to use less if this sounds like you.

Bioactive protein fractions

Bioactive proteins are a key reason whey protein is so much more than “just” a quality protein, as many of these proteins are also in human breast milk, and there is a lot of evidence that they have a wide range of health benefits. You can read more on this in our blog post here.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
  • Hi, when will this product will be available again ?

Thank you for your message.  It is more a case of if, rather than when. It ultimately comes down to the costs being very high to make this vs a limited number of people willing to pay for it, and the fact that it can only be made in very large quantities.  We can't just spin up small batches; the technology doesn't allow for that.  If/when costs comes down, or a bigger market exists (or both), then it should be possible to get this going again.

  • Can I add this while making pancakes or baking ? And does it lose its value while heated ??

Thank you for the question.  Yes you can add it to pancakes and baked foods, though it does indeed lose some of its effectiveness after being cooked.  It is at its best un-heated, but it is still ok after heating too, just not as good :-)

  • Why do you use semi skimmed milk instead of full fat milk? Recent studies seem to suggest that overall full fat is better, despite having more fat, as it has higher levels of nutrients, omega 3 nd vitamid D and A.

Thank you for the question. If full fat milk were used, the fat would clog up the filtration system, so it does need to be semi skimmed. Making a whey protein while keeping the fat from the milk would also result in it having less protein, a shorter shelf life, and it would be hard to turn it into a powder without adding something such as a starch to stop it clumping together. I hope that makes sense :-)

  • Hi, how long will the smallest packet of your isolate last using a daily recommended dose? Thankyou

Thank you for the question. There are 16 full servings in the smallest (400g) pack, so with a daily serving the 400g pack will therefore last for 16 days. However many people have half a serving, as the 22.2g in a whole serving is more than they need; it really comes down to how much protein you are already consuming. I hope that helps anyhow :-)

  • Hello again, Im enjoying the isolate tastes delicious. Another question as I am taking for health reasons, rather than muscle building- do you know the pasteurisation method/temperature of the milk? Many thanks,

Hi Jessica, thank you for the question and it's great to hear you're enjoying our organic whey protein isolate! It is pasteurised at 72°C for 15 seconds :-)

  • Hi Does the whey protein isolate come in other flavours? Also, when will you have the 1 kilo bags in stock? Thank!

Thank you for the questions. We only have our isolate available in unflavoured, and the 1.2kg bags will be back in stock in around 5-6 weeks :-)

  • Evening You have still not got back to me regarding the filtration system you use and potential diseases your product may contain, if filtered incorrectly. I reply again, only because I am qualified www.coryholly.com C.S.N.A And yesterday took mobile number of Dan coach at newly promoted Wigan Athletic. Best of health Peter Or if you prefer Sovereign Peter of the family Riley Level 1 Power Program C.S.N.A www.drmichaelcolgan.com www.NutritionFacts.org

    Hi Peter,

I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply. Our whey isolate is made using cross flow membrane filtration, as is standard practice for ultrafiltration. The producer is however unwilling to confirm if it is done so with the values of 3 to 30 KiloDaltons.

However, this is made using organic pasteurised milk, so there are no diseases that need to be removed. If you have an issue with milk for whatever reason then I'm afraid this product won't be for you :-)

    Many thanks,
    Dan

  • Hi there - what is the cutoff for a Saturday delivery if I pay the DPD Saturday delivery? Is Friday night ok? Thanks !

Hello again. The cutoff is 3.30pm, so unfortunately it is too late to get that sent out today. We dispatch all orders the same day if placed by 3.30pm on Monday to Friday, and on Sundays we send as many orders from Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning as we can by midday :-)

  • Hi there - hope all is well Could you please let me know what is the expiry date of your 1.2 kilo unit? Thanks !

Thank you for the question Alex, I hope you're well too. The Best Before End date is 30th September 2023 :-)

  • Why does the powder curdle when heated? For instance I stirred it through my porridge (consisting of just oats and water already cooked) then heated everything in the microwave and it went really lumpy!

Thank you for the question Niki. If you are cooking the whey protein as part of a porridge mix, then you will need to heat it in a pan and stir continuously in order to avoid lumpiness from occurring. The lumps are a result of the proteins denaturing due to the heat :-)

  • Is it easily mixed with water in a shaker or a blender is needed? I read someone complaining about that. Thanks for a quick reply

Thank you for the new question. It mixes perfectly in a blender, after just a few seconds. In a hand shaker, the mistake a lot of people make is not shaking vigorously enough or not for long enough. Really shaking thoroughly for 20-30 seconds will fully mix it all nicely, but anything less than that and it will still have lumps :-)

  • 1: Had a 3rd party lab tested this produkt? 2: Is it Soya and GMO free?

Thank you for the question, Sascha. Yes it has been 3rd party tested, and you can see the latest nutritional test certificate in the nutrition section on the organic whey isolate page, and on the Transparency -> Test Results page:
    https://theorganicproteincompany.co.uk/pages/test-results

Or we will be happy to email it to you also if you like.

It is indeed Soya and GMO free. GMO is prohibited in organic agriculture, and it is made in a soya free facility.

    I hope that helps :-)

  • What is the amino acid profile of the whey protein isolate? Why is it not printed on the package - this smells of a lack of transparency…..

    Hi Joanna,

The amino acids profile of our organic whey protein isolate is available in the "nutrition" section on the organic whey protein isolate page (or to others reading, on this very page). You just need to click or tap on the "nutrition" circle and you'll find the amino acids beneath the main nutritional information table. We don't print them on the pack as there isn't enough space to do so.

I hope the results smell good :-)

    All the best,
    Dan

  • I know product is organic but why is it not registered with a soil Association

Thank you for the question, Roger. We work with The Organic Food Federation as they are a pleasure to work with, and the Soil Association standards are virtually identical to those of The Organic Food Federation so we don't see the need to change. Though we do also qualify for Soil Association status (not that there is much of a difference). Certified Organic is Certified Organic :-)

  • Does this product contain cholesterol or oxidised cholesterol

Thank you for asking Roger. Whey protein isolate contains only a very small amount of cholesterol, but we haven't yet had ours tested for this I'm afraid. We will look into the possiblity of getting it tested :-)

  • The description says that this is not made using a by-product of cheese, but by filtering milk. I was wondering what happens to the byproduct of filtering the milk - does it get wasted? I like the idea of using a by-product as it is easier on natural resources. Thanks so much, this is my first venture into protein powder so I'm trying to do my research.

Thank you for the question, Fiona...and good one too! The three main parts of the milk besides the whey protein are all used one way or another. The lactose is separated to become lactose powder and the casein proteins become a casein protein powder too, both of which are then used as ingredients by various companies. The water is reused in the facility also, as whey protein filtration is quite a water intensive process. Normally the casein proteins would end up in cheese (the main protein in curds is casein), whereas in this case they end up in other products as an ingredient (we may also launch this fairly soon as a separate casein protien powder product). So although the whey protein in our isolate is not a byproduct, there is a similar lack of waste as with our original organic whey protein :-)

  • Does this protein contain Casein ? Aminogram does not mention Casein - just to confirm. Thank you.

Thank you for the question, Joao! It may contain trace amounts of casein, but that is all.. Every bit of casein should be removed during the filtration process, but there is still a chance that a tiny amount remains. It wouldn't be mentioned in our amino acids list anyhow, as casein isn't an amino acid. Casein is made up of different amino acids the same was as whey protein and other protein sources are, or in other words it would have its own aminogram :-)

  • Hi, is the isolate Denatured at all please?

Thank you for the question Karen.  It will likely be at least partially denatured, due the heat used to pasteurise the milk, at 72C for 15 seconds :-)

  • Is this protein good for breast cancer survivor patients. Also can you recommend me any good one. Please let me know. Thank you.

Hi Pawan, thank you for your message. Yes this is a good choice as it is very quickly digested and readily absorbed by the body. Our original organic whey protein (https://theorganicproteincompany.co.uk/products/organic-whey-protein) is also a very good choice, so it really comes down to your budget and whether or not you are happy to pay the extra for the additional protein that you are getting in the isolate. That is up to you really, but they are both excellont choices :-)

  • Hi, is this safe to take while breastfeeding?

Thank you for the question Claudia! Yes it is considered safe to use while breastfeeding, though we always recommend discussing with a GP first to be certain that in your situation it is a good idea :-)

  • Are your proteins safe for those on neutropenic diet? I.e. a cancer patient who has no immune system and everything has to be pasteurised etc.

Hi Amy, thank you for the question. The organic whey protein (both the isolate and the original) is made using pasterised milk, so if you stick with the unflavoured versions then it will be suitable for people on a neutropenic diet, assuming pasteurisation is the only requirement. However I would steer clear of the flavours, as they all contain additional raw ingredients. I hope that helps :-)

  • Hi - does this have leucine in it? Thanks!

Thank you for the question, Laura. Yes it does inded - there are 9g of Leucine per 100g, or 2.25g per 25g serving :-)

  • Hello Do you have plans to release a larger version of this pouch - and if so, do you know roughly when? (Trying to decide if I wait or not) Thanks!

Hi Alex, we would like to release a larger size, but this won't be happening for at least another 6 months. Thank you for the question :-)

  • Hi, can this protein be heated? For instance, if I make a hot chocolate using this protein powder, should I add the protein before or after warming it up in the microwave/ pan. Or if I make porridge, should it be added before or after the porridge is made? Or when used in baking for instance. Thanks!

    Thank you for the question!

Yes, it can indeed be heated. In order to avoid getting lumps, you will need to mix it thoroughly before heating and then heat in a pan while stirring continuously. Or if you are baking, then you can simply mix with the rest of the dry ingredients and it is a good idea to also add a little extra liquid.

    I hope that helps :-)

  • Is it possible to tell me how much lactoferrin is found in the supplement. Is colostrum milk used.

Thank you for the question. We have yet to find a lab that can give us a quantifiable measurement of lactoferrin, but we are still asking around so hope to have this available at some point.

The milk is regular semi skimmed organic grass fed A1 milk :-)

  • Hi, there, for this protein, ingredient is just organic grass feeded cow milk? Have added any sugar or sweetener? where actually made from? What is the normal guarantee period? I am thinking about to give it to illness person, got to be very careful Your reply will be very helpful Thanks

Hi there, thank you for the question.

That's right, it is just pure organic grass fed whey protein isolate - nothing else is added, so no sweeteners or flavourings. It is made in Austria by filtering organic grass fed milk from cows in the UK, Austria, Switzerland, and if supplies are low then also from other European organic dairies.

The shelf life is up to 18 months and the current batch has a Best Before End date in September 2022. Once you have opened the pack, it can be stored for 6 weeks, or if kept in an airtight container until the Best Before End date is reached. It can be returned for a refund up to 90 days after purchase, provided no more than three servings are missing from the pack.

    I hope that helps :-)

  • How much protein should a woman have each day?

Thank you for the question Jan. According to the British Nutrition Foundation, the average woman needs to eat 45g of protein a day, or for a more accurate daily intake figure, you can consume 0.75g of protein per kilo of body weight per day. I hope that helps :-)

  • Is this product lactose free? Thank you

Hi Maria, thank you for the question. It is low in lactose, but not lactose free. It contains 4% lactose, whereas semi skimmed milk in dried form contains around 50% lactose, so most of it is removed and therefore it is normally suitable for people with mild lactose intolerance :-)

  • What does isolate mean What makes it different from none isolate? Johanna

Hi Johanna, thank you for the excellent question!

Our organic whey protein isolate goes through an additional filtration stage, giving us a higher protein content and making it even more readily absorbed by our bodies than the regular organic whey protein (a concentrate).
