Why add protein powder to your yoghurt?

The classic protein shake is brilliant for upping your protein intake on the go, but if you’re looking for a more substantial meal, you’re looking in the right place. Adding protein powder to everyday meals is a simple, convenient way to balance your diet with this vital macronutrient:

"Protein has many hugely important roles within the body. Protein intake as part of a balanced diet is fundamental to health to maintain muscle mass as well as functions such as building enzymes."

Dr. Chris Hughes

Popping some protein powder into a bowl of Greek or simply plain yoghurt is healthy, nutritious, and delicious – and can be easily customised with whatever your heart desires.

How to make protein-packed yoghurt

When it comes to mixing protein powder into your yoghurt, a little preparation goes a long way. Try out different combinations and methods to find what works best for you – we have four tasty organic whey protein flavours you can try out, for example.

1. Choose your yoghurt and protein powder

Greek yoghurt is a top pick for its high protein content – a 100g serving generally contains around 10g of protein – but plain yoghurt works well if you prefer a milder taste.

Grab your favourite protein powder, whether that’s a fast-absorbing whey protein or a plant-based alternative. Flavours, such as a vanilla protein powder, can add a delicious twist, while unflavoured keeps it simple, giving you a neutral base to be creative with. We’d recommend opting for an organic protein powder if possible to avoid the presence of pesticides or artificial ingredients.

2. Mix in your protein powder

To get a smooth, lump-free texture, you can mix your protein powder in gradually. Begin by adding just a little yoghurt to your protein powder, stirring until it forms a thick paste. Then, slowly incorporate more yoghurt, blending together until smooth.

Or, gradually add a scoop of protein powder into your bowl of yoghurt, stirring it in to mix. Some protein-yoghurt experts even mix their protein powder with a little water first, stirring it into a paste, and then add in their serving of yoghurt for an almost pudding-like consistency.

3. Add your own twist

Just like with porridge, you can add toppings to give your protein porridge a final flourish. Fresh fruits like blueberries not only add a burst of sweetness but are also packed with antioxidants, which help fight free radicals and support overall health. (2)

Bananas are another excellent choice, offering slow-release energy and a healthy dose of potassium. (3) For flavour, why not try a drizzle of honey or a spoonful of almond butter?

If you’re aiming for a high-protein, low-calorie snack, be mindful of added sugars and toppings to keep the nutritional value of your snack in check.
